In 2019, the national titanium dioxide industry doubled the output and production capacity

On February 13, the author learned from the Titanium Dioxide Branch Center of the National Chemical Industry Productivity Promotion Center and the Titanium Dioxide Industry Technology Innovation Strategic Alliance Secretariat. According to statistics, in 2019, there were 41 full-process titanium dioxide enterprises with normal production conditions in the country. The comprehensive output reached 3.18 million tons, an increase of 7.69% year-on-year. Due to the upgrading of enterprises in the industry and the joining of new companies outside the industry, in 2019, the effective total capacity of the titanium dioxide industry increased to 3.8 million tons per year, an increase of 400,000 tons per year, an increase 11.76%.

According to Bi Sheng, Secretary-General of the National Titanium Dioxide Industry Technology Innovation Strategic Alliance and Director of the National Titanium Dioxide Industry Expert Advisory Committee, in 2019, the national titanium dioxide industry-wide average capacity utilization rate was 83.68%, within a reasonable range. The capacity utilization rate of large and medium-sized enterprises is generally high, while small and micro enterprises are relatively low.

Product classification: In 2019, among the 3.18 million tons of titanium dioxide products in the country, the rutile type was 2.54 million tons, accounting for 80%, an increase of 2.39% over the previous year; the titanium type was 520,000 tons, accounting for 16.29%, An increase of 1.3% over the previous year; 120,000 tons of non-pigment grade and other products, accounting for 3.70%, a decrease of 1.5% over the previous year.

There are 11 companies with an output of 100,000 tons and above in the whole industry, and the comprehensive output accounts for 69.27%. In 2019, there are 41 full-process titanium dioxide companies that can maintain normal production conditions nationwide, of which the output of the top 11 companies has reached or exceeded 100,000 tons, which is completely consistent with 2019 (the order of individual companies has changed slightly) . The comprehensive output of the top 11 companies reached 2.204 million tons, accounting for 69.27% of the country's total output that year, a decrease of 1.11% from the previous year, indicating that the concentration of production capacity is slightly scattered.

The output of the chlorination method exceeded 200,000 tons for the first time. In 2019, the comprehensive output of chlorinated titanium dioxide produced by four chlorinated titanium dioxide enterprises was 209,000 tons, which exceeded 200,000 tons for the first time in history. In 2019, the production of chlorinated titanium dioxide accounted for 6.56% of the national total production of titanium dioxide, and accounted for 8.20% of the rutile output of that year.

Speaking of the import and export of titanium dioxide, Bi Sheng told the author that the import and export situation continued to continue in 2018, the import volume is decreasing, and the export volume is increasing. According to statistics from the General Administration of Customs, the cumulative import of titanium dioxide in the country in 2018 was 198,000 tons, which was 8.13% lower than the previous year; in 2019, the import of titanium dioxide in the country was 167,600 tons, a decrease of 41,600 tons year-on-year. 20%. In 2018, the national total export of titanium dioxide was 90.8 completed tons, an increase of 9.28% over the previous year; in 2019, the national export of titanium dioxide was 1.0034 million tons, an increase of 95,100 tons year-on-year, an increase of 10.47%. The export volume of 1.003 million tons in 2019 accounted for 31.54% of the country's total output that year, an increase of 0.8% over the previous year. The export volume in 2019 is an important node that exceeded 1 million tons for the first time in history.

Bi Sheng pointed out that in 2019, the apparent demand for titanium dioxide in China was 2,346,100 tons, an increase of 90,700 tons over the previous year.

Titanium Ore Supply and Demand: In 2019, the country ’s imports of titanium ore were 2.614 million tons. The country ’s largest producer of titanium ore produced about 3.8 million tons of titanium ore in Panzhihua, Sichuan, including Yunnan, Shandong, Hebei, and other regions in Xinjiang. ~ 2.5 million tons, so the total supply of titanium ore in the market is about 8.5 million to 8.7 million tons. In 2019, the titanium dioxide industry consumes about 7 million to 7.5 million tons of titanium ore, and other industries consume about 700,000 to 750,000 tons. The total market demand for titanium ore is 7.7 million to 8.3 million tons.

Bi Sheng pointed out that overall, although the market of titanium ore in 2019 has been fluctuating, and due to the cost relationship, the annual market price has basically shown an upward trend; the second half of the year due to transportation and other reasons, the supply is tight in some periods; the current due to new viruses Due to the impact of the epidemic, the basic balance between supply and demand has been disrupted, but this should be temporary.
